About Us

Our Story

We are a Japanese couple living, exploring, and roasting coffee in New Zealand.

Daiki

Daiki grew up in Japan as the eldest son of a horticulture family. Ever since he was a kid, he’s been endlessly curious—diving headfirst into nature, science, basketball, and whatever caught his attention. In university, he studied Marine Biology, especially for penguins and marine mammals.  Driven by a dream to see wild penguins, he traveled to New Zealand. Once here, he was completely head-over-heels in love not just with penguins, but with all of New Zealand’s unique native birds. He fell so hard for this island and its flora and fauna that he never returned to Japan.

Aiko

Aiko is a naturally multi-talented spirit who can master pretty much anything she puts her mind to. Her career path has taken her everywhere: dance instructor, real estate agent, Japanese teacher, and barista. You could say she loves embracing new challenges (or maybe she just gets bored easily!). But the one thing—and person—she never got bored of was Daiki. Though she originally planned to return to Japan after her trip, meeting Daiki convinced her to stay and build a life together here in New Zealand.

Why We Roast

Having spent years working across New Zealand's bustling coffee industry, we noticed something. While New Zealand has an incredible coffee culture, it heavily centres on espresso and white coffee, like the iconic Flat White. Coming from Japan, where coffee is enjoyed through a diverse range of pour-overs, syphon coffee, and unique single-origin flavors, we wanted to share that rich variety with others.

There is so much more to coffee than just a quick flat white! From pour-over filter coffee and french press to cold brew, each method unlocks distinct characteristics in every bean. We started our own micro-roastery, selling freshly roasted beans and drip bags so everyone can discover their own favorite way to enjoy coffee.

Coffee & Native Birds

Alongside our passion for coffee, we want to share our love for New Zealand’s native wildlife. Every coffee bag features photos of the South Island local birds taken by Daiki himself during his adventures. For us, enjoying a quiet cup of coffee and listening to the birds sing go hand in hand. We want to bring a piece of that peaceful New Zealand rhythm to your daily coffee ritual.

Happy Coffee Life! ☕️🦜
